SUBJECT: ARTS AND CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
APPOINTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
That Danielle Deveau be appointed to the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee to serve
until November 30, 2014.
BACKGROUND:
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee (ACAC) fulfills an advisory role, providing advice and
recommendations to Council and staff on arts and culture matters to further the City's strategic
directions (quality of life, downtown vitality, leadership, diversity, community development,
environment).
The work includes:
• Advising on arts and culture policy issues and program implementation,
• Identification of priorities for community arts and culture development,
• Advocacy for information sharing on arts and culture issues throughout the
community,
• Acting as a resource to artists and arts organizations for networking, professional
development and information sharing,
• Research on best practices for arts and culture development,
• Innovations for arts and culture development, and
• Facilitation of community dialogue on arts and culture matters.
Although ACAC is termed a "generalist" advisory committee, members are expected to be
knowledgeable about the arts and Kitchener's arts community.
One member has recently resigned due to a change in circumstances. The committee wishes to
fill the vacancy.

REPORT:
Two interested candidates submitted their credentials for consideration. In compliance with
Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the resumes of both candidates
have been circulated to Mayor and Councillors under separate cover.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
The city's advisory committees actively demonstrate and promote its commitment to leadership
and community engagement. Sector - specific, ongoing consultation with the public contributes
to quality of life and effective government.
The city acknowledges arts and culture as a factor critical to the health of the community
through support for the goals and objectives of Kitchener's Economic Development Strategy.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
N/A
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
Interested citizens who had inquired about serving on the committee and who had no prior
knowledge that vacancies existed stood for nomination to the slate.
