2.5CEI Update: Shelley Adams
CEI received funding from the province to undertake a regional map of cultural assets for use
by the municipalities.
Simultaneously, Arts Build Ontario (ABO) to inventory venues owned by art organizations in
30 municipalities, including Waterloo region.
CEI and ABO to collaborate.
CEI’s Grand Social web site a critical component.
Plan to keep data current will be required.
Goals: to create a tool that’s simple, meaningful, with potential to have impact. To help
decision makers toidentifystrengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and to help
substantiate needs for funding requests.
Unknown if the project will move beyond data collection to analytics.
City of Kitchener to use the map as the starting point for upcoming cultural planning
project, despite that the province has discontinued funding for cultural planning. Kitchener
may produce a non-traditional cultural plan.
ACAC Comments:
CEI’s map of cultural assets could be useful to demonstrate to Council the cultural groups
and assets in each ward.
Cultural occupation data is important data to include.
Challenge will be to compel individuals and organizations to participate.
CEI could connect with Compass Kitchener, as they are considering how to measure the
city’s progress on meeting the goals set out in its strategic plan; could explore sharing
information.
ACTION: STAFF TO EMAIL MUSIC WORKS PARTICIPANTS A REMINDER TO JOINGRAND SOCIAL.
