APPOINTMENTS TO COMPASS KITCHENER
wvmkitchener ca
That Bojanan Savic, Sharon Hartigan, Scott Harris, and Krishna Khetani be appointed to
Compass Kitchener for a term expiring November 30, 2014.
BACKGROUND:
Section 4 a) of Council Policy 1 -77 (Compass Kitchener — Terms of Reference) indicates that the
composition of the Committee shall include: 8 -12 community members representing various
sectors including healthy community sectors (environmental, economic, and social), and
population segments (e.g. youth, racialized groups, etc.)
On November 19, 2012, Council approved a compliment of 14 Committee members for
Compass Kitchener. Over the past 12 months there have been six resignations from the
Committee for various reasons, including: job changes, change of residence, inability to make
the time commitment and personal reasons. Compass Kitchener currently has eight members.
REPORT:
In June and July of this year, the openings on the Compass Kitchener Committee were
publicized on the City's web -site on the volunteer opportunities page. Staff mentioned it on the
radio spot that is used to advertise volunteer opportunities and staff shared the opening with
citizens who contacted us seeking volunteer engagement and listing advisory committees as an
area of interest. Members of Compass Kitchener were also requested to share the information
with associates. In response, four applications were received.
The Chair for Compass Kitchener and the primary staff support person reviewed the
qualifications of the applicants and conducted interviews to determine their suitability for the
Committee. All applicants were enthusiastic about contributing to the mandate of the
Committee, offered knowledge and experience either in community engagement processes or
have worked directly with members of the community through their employment. These
appointments would strengthen the youth representation and increase the multiculturalism of
the Committee.
