DISCUSSION ITEMS 4.0Joint Regional Arts and Culture Advisory Committee meeting planning Takes place Thursday, May 15, 5-7pm at Cambridge city hall(50 Dickson St. Bowman room, main floor). Waterloo, Cambridge and Kitchener participating. Agenda: Creative Enterprise Initiative (CEI) to give a ‘Smart Region’ update. o Each city to provide an overview and rationale behind its approach to funding o Arts/Culture initiatives(the ‘how’, the ‘why’ and the ‘outcome’). Group to discuss these approaches. o Group to consider broad questions about regional fundingand investment in arts and o culture while providing examples of what works/what doesn’t work’ work(helpful approach to understand gaps). Question of benefits of funding larger versus smaller arts groups can fit here, which addresses the regional issue of sustainability funding without alienating Cambridge. Comments: Questions specifically about sustainability funding are not as relevant to Cambridge, o although funding is an important and timely topic in all of the municipalities. Kitchener’s arts/culture community is concerned that Kitchener does not have a current o culture plan. 1 April 2014-ACAC Minutes ARTS ANDCULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ACAC) MINUTES APRIL 29, 2014CITY OF KITCHENER Culture Planning is an important topic to discuss at a future joint committee meeting; o will help to ensure plans and approaches across the region are complementary. ACAC should voice opinions on what sort of culture plan Kitchener should undertake o through commenting on the City of Kitchener’s strategic planning process, which is now open for public comment. In the region, each city’s culture plan should complement the other city’s plans. o A future informal, social gathering might be a pleasant way for regional advisory o committees to share information, rather than a formal meeting with an agenda.
