DISCUSSION ITEMS
4.0Joint Regional Arts and Culture Advisory Committee debrief
Occurred on Thursday, May 22 at Cambridge city hall.
ACAC impressions:group wants to accomplish something.
Arts/culture advisory committees have an important role: providing valuable advice and
input to Council.
ACAC’s support lendscredibility and weight to staff reports (eg sustainability funding review,
arts clusters strategy).
Good discussion of a region-wide approach to arts and culture in the economy. Kitchener,
Waterloo and Cambridge all share an interest in the dollar per capita investment in the arts
and various approaches to arts funding. This feedback will inform collaborative discussions
about regional arts investment. The ACACs’ unanimous recommendations could strengthen
the approach.
Will meet again before the end of ACAC’s term in November 2014.
A subgroup of committee members to set the next agenda
Ifall three ACACs recommend something, will have additional power with Council.
Interesting observation noted: the landscape of donors and patrons is changing.
Longstanding prominent families are fading, hi tech firms are becoming more active
philanthropically.
ACTION: Staff to synthesize and circulate a summary of the comments recorded at the joint
meeting.
