PREPARED BY: Shayne Turner, Director of By-law Enforcement, (519-741-

WARD(S) INVOLVED: 6
DATE OF REPORT: May 22, 2014
REPORT NO.: CSD-14-067
SUBJECT: NOISE EXEMPTION REQUEST— CONSTRUCTION WORK
AT McLENNAN PARK
RECOMMENDATION:
That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code
be granted to the Facilities Management Division for necessary repairs to the
washroom facilities at McLennan Park on various evenings between June 10,
2014 and July 9, 2014.
BACKGROUND:
The work required at the washroom facility involves excavating the material beneath
and adjacent to the comfort station to affect repairs to the plumbing and methane
venting systems, supply piping and the methane gas barrier. From time to time, there
may be a requirement to work past the 7PM time frame noted in the Noise By-law
relating to construction work. As such, they are requesting an exemption from the City's
Noise By-law.
REPORT:
It is staff's opinion that the effect of the noise on the adjacent residential area should be
minimal. If a concern arises, staff will be in a position to work with the contractor to
address the issue and attempt to mitigate any impact.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
The aforementioned amendments support the Community Priority of Quality of Life, as
contained in the City's Strategic Plan.
