BACKGROUND: Report INS 14-059 was submitted to the Community and Infrastructure Services Committee on June 23, 2014 recommending that the existing 15 minute loading zone on the south side of Duke Street East from a point 13 metres east of Frederick Street to a point 25 metres east of Frederick Street be relocated to the south side of Duke Street East from a point 20 metres east of Frederick Street to a point 12 metres east thereof. In response to feedback from local businesses abutting this loading zone, the length of said loading zone will have to be reviewed. REPORT: After the reconfiguration of the on-street accessible parking space and 15 minute loading zone, Transportation Services staff received complaints from local businesses abutting this loading zone citing insufficient room for commercial vehicles to access this area. Based on this, along with a review of the new configuration, staff are recommending that the 15 minute loading zone be extended on the south side of Duke Street East from a point 20 metres east of Frederick Street to a point 15 metres east thereof. ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. "Work with partners, including all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community." By working with the neighbourhood, on-street parking concerns have been addressed. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The approximate cost for sign installations for the roadway is $100 and will be taken from the existing sign maintenance budget. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: INFORM — This report has been posted to the City's website with the agenda in advance of the council / committee meeting. CONSULT — Transportation Services has consulted with local businesses and Infrastructure Ontario regarding the size and location of the 15 minute loading zone.
