SUBJECT: NOISE EXEMPTION REQUEST— BETHANY EVANGELICAL
MISSIONARY CHURCH
RECOMMENDATION:
That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code
be granted to the Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church for its annual Block
Party on September 7, 2014, between the hours of 3 PM and 7:30 PM.
BACKGROUND:
The Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church, at 160 Lancaster Street East, is holding its
2nd annual Block Party on September 7, 2014, between the hours of 3 PM and 7:30 PM.
As such, they are requesting an exemption from Chapter 450 (Noise). A copy of their
exemption request is attached.
REPORT:
The event will include some small midway type rides that will require the use of a
generator. Given the time of the event, staff are not anticipating any significant noise
concerns. Staff also note that they have no record of any complaints registered with
regard to last year's event.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
This noise exemption supports the Community Priority of Quality of Life, as contained in
the City's Strategic Plan.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
N/A

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
The event organizers will be informing, and inviting the adjacent residential
neighbourhood, in advance of the event date.

Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church is having its 2°d annual Block Party in the church parking lot on
Sunday, September 7r" .
The event will have setup starting at 8:00 and takedown after the event is finished at 7:30 pm. We
will be having a carousel swing, mini ferric wheel, inflatable slide, rock climber along with some other
games. There will be a generators running for some of these items.
We are coming to you to ask for an exemption under the noise by law. We will also have a public
address speaker located in the parking lot.
