Business Development, 519-741-2200, ext. 7230 PREPARED BY: Rob Morgan, Capital Investment Advisor, 519-741-2200 ext. 7734 WARD (S) INVOLVED: Ward 9 DATE OF REPORT: September 3, 2014 REPORT NO.: CAO-14-039 SUBJECT:Declaration of Surplus, 40 Ontario Street South __________________________________________________________________________________________ RECOMMENDATION “That the lands located at 40 Ontario Street South, in the City of Kitchener, owned by the Corporation of the City of Kitchener, as shown on the attached map, be declared surplus to the City’s needs for the purposes of the sale of the land.” REPORT: The City has received interest from a developer wishing to purchase the City owned parcel located at 40 Ontario Street South. The property is currently in use as a City operated 24 space surface parking lot (Lot 9). The subject site is approximately 0.32 acres in size, zoned D-1 and is located in close proximity to the Region’s future LRT line. The declaration of surplus and the ultimate sale of the property for redevelopment purposes would be in keeping with the Recommendations of the City’s Long Term Parking Strategy which encourages the assessment of redevelopment opportunities for surface parking lot and the exploration of opportunities for increasing residential redevelopment in the Downtown. The timing and method of selling the property will be determined once the new Council has been elected. 11. - ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: The declaration of surplus and ultimate sale of City land relates to the foundation of Efficient and Effective Government as defined in the City’s Strategic Plan. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: N/A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: INFORM – This report has been posted to the City’s website with the agenda in advance of the council / committee meeting.
