BACKGROUND: In June 2014 one of the support rods that holds one of the gym partitions at Stanley Park Community Centre snapped and became unsafe to operate. This is the second time that a support rod has broken. It was determined that the gym partition was no longer safe to operate and was locked out of operation. From a health and safety perspective both gym partitions need to be replaced. The current partitions weigh approximately 400 lbs each and have to be moved manually. Typically, moveable partitions should last around 20 years, but given these partitions are moved manually the wear and tear on them has been such that they have not lasted as long as they should have, even with regular maintenance. The gym partitions are being replaced with motorized movable partitions which will give us the life expectancy and remove the current safety issues we have in moving partitions manually.
