BACKGROUND: Building staff issued An Order to Remedy and Unsafe Building at 123 Duke Street East, Kitchener, in November 2013 due to a fire inside a single detached dwelling. The Order required the owner to repair the fire damages that left the building structurally unsafe. REPORT: The following companies were contacted on August 12, 2014 to provide an informal quote: Kieswetter Demolition Inc. Ramseyer Earthworks Sittler Demolition Waterloo Demolition By the closing date of Tuesday, August 19, 2014, one (1) quote had been received. The following quote was received: Bid Price Kieswetter Demolition Inc. Waterloo ON $27,523.13 * 1. vi. - 1 As per Chapter 170 of Kitchener’s Municipal Code, Section 170.3.6, an attempt was made to obtain three quotes however only one company, of the four contacted, responded to the informal request. The price for the demolition of 123 Duke Street East is below the estimated demolition cost prepared by MTE Consultants as part of the review of the property in question. The informal quote was reviewed by M. Seiling, Director of Building/CBO, who concurs with the above recommendation. The City of Kitchener’s purchasing policies and practices ensure openness, fairness and transparency in the procurement of goods and services. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: Cost of the demolition will be recovered through property taxes. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: INFORM - Potential vendors are informed of bid opportunities as outlined in the City’s Purchasing By-Law. Vendors, local media and the general public are informed of purchasing recommendations to Council through the public reports which are included with the Council agenda the week prior to the Council meeting.
