PREPARED BY: Justin Mishko, Traffic Technologist,
519-741-2200, extension 7153
WARD(S) INVOLVED: Ward 10
DATE OF REPORT: September 30, 2014
REPORT NO.: INS-14-087
SUBJECT: On-street Parking Regulations —Ahrens Street East
RECOMMENDATION:
That parking be permitted for a maximum of 15 consecutive minutes on the south
side of Ahrens Street East from a point 13 metres east of Queen Street North to a
point 31 metres east thereof; and further,
That the Uniform Traffic Bylaw be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
Ahrens Street East serves primarily as an access point to the Region of Waterloo,
Region of Waterloo Police Service and the Kitchener Public Library. As a result of the
recent reconstruction of local area facilities and Ahrens Street East, parking regulations
will have to be reviewed.
REPORT:
Currently on-street parking is prohibited on the entire south side of Ahrens Street East,
as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138.
The reconstruction of Ahrens Street East included the installation of one lay-by parking
bay on the south side of Ahrens Street East. The intended purpose of this parking bay is
to accommodate deliveries and short-term parking to primarily assist the library and its
operations. As such, Transportation Services staff is recommending that parking be
permitted within the parking bay for a maximum of 15 consecutive minutes.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. "Work with partners,
including all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community." By
working with the neighbourhood, on-street parking concerns have been addressed.

advance of the council / committee meeting.
CONSULT — This recommendation is supported by the Kitchener Public Library.
