HomeMy WebLinkAboutEDAC - 2014-08-28 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES August 28, 2014 City of Kitchener The Economic Development Advisory Committee along with the Downtown Action & Advisory Committee met this date, Chaired by Jeremy Auger (EDAC) EDAC members in attendance : Jeremy Auger; Mark Bingeman, Adrian Conrad, Jeff Hoekman, Johanna Classon-Romero, and Darrin Snider DAAC members in attendance : Councillor Dan-Glenn Graham, Councillor Frank Etherington, Melissa Bowman, Dean Knipfel, David Kuhn, Christine Michaud, Lisa Polonoski, and Brad Watson Delegates: Sonia Lewis, KPL; Michael Maxwell, Momentum Developments; Chris Pidgeon, GSP Group City staff in attendance: Brian Bennett, Rod Regier, Monika Grau, Kim Feere, Chris Farrell, Janette MacDonald, Tracey Murray and Sandy Curzon, Those in attendance joined S. Lewis on a tour of the newly renovated Central Library. It th was noted that the Official opening is set for Saturday, September 6. Check the KPL website www.kpl.org for further details. Joint meeting resumed following tour at 4:35pm. 1. Discussion Items Civic District R. Regier provided an overview of the site bounded by Weber, Queen, Ellen and Frederick Streets. KPL, Centre in the Square, Registry Theatre and KW Art Gallery are four of the Regions cultural venues located within the Civic District. Potential uses within the district include residential, commercial and the expansion of current open spaces. Maxwell introduced their newest development The One Hundred located within the Innovation District and only a block away from their One Victoria development which is currently under construction. Following are some of the highlights of Mr. Maxwel presentation: of the 276 residential units, 185 have been sold main floor retail and restaurant at street level 3 commercial units at grade 2 floors of office space 253 parking spaces and accommodation for 566 bicycles the rooftop terrace will feature an indoor theatre and fitness facility Economic Development Advisory Committee August 28, 2014 Tower 1 completion expected 2017 Tower 2 completion expected 2018 2. New Business Economic Development Updates J. MacDonald provided an overview of the recent economic development updates. The full report is attached. 2014-08 EconDev Project Update.pdf Advisory Committee Recruitment Process T. Murray advised DAAC members that their current term ends November 30, 2014. Should they wish to continue to sit on the Downtown Action & Advisory Committee they thst must re-apply by September 19. Council approval will be made December 1.
