REVIEWING ALTERNATIVES FOR WESTHEIGHTS Mr. Pimentel informed the committee that Westheights has been recommended to council for a traffic calming review and the implementation of cycling infrastructure. He presented statistics and data for the site as well as four alternatives for the street layout. All those who show interest in the project as well as all those who live in the area will be included in the approval process. The first alternative included a 2-way cycle track on one side and on street parking on the other with 2 travel lanes separated by a buffer. The second alternative included four narrow travel lanes, one narrow bike lane on either side of the street and no on street parking. Committee members raised concerns about the lack of parking as well as the size of the bike lanes. Mr. Boos mentioned that the bike lanes were too narrow and did not meet book 18 standards. Councillor Fernandes was concerned that this design might increase the average speed. Mr. Pimentel reminded the committee that these road designs would be paired with traffic calming measures to slow down any traffic. Mr. Hoshowsky noted that the two way cycle track raises concerns such as access to intersections and areas on the opposite side of the street.
