BACKGROUND: Transportation Services has received a request to review the existing on-street parking regulations on Dunbar Road. The concerns cited were related to the presence of pedestrian's on Dunbar Road and the potential conflicts with vehicles. Furthermore, it was cited that it is difficult to enter and exit private dwellings due to the combination of on-street parking and pedestrians accessing Westmount Public School. REPORT: Currently, on-street parking is permitted on the north side of Dunbar Road from Duchess Avenue to Glasgow Street for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive hours, while stopping is prohibited at any time 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday on the south side of Dunbar Road from Glasgow Street to Katherine Crescent, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138. ***This information is available in accessible formats upon request. *** Please call 519-741-2345 or TTY 1-866-969-9994 for assistance. 1 - 1 In order to address this request, Transportation Services surveyed the residents regarding a proposal to prohibit stopping from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday on the north side of Dunbar Road from Glasgow Street to Duchess Avenue. The survey results are as follows: In favour of prohibiting stopping from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday on the north side of Dunbar Road from Glasgow Street to Duchess Avenue: 4 (80.0%) In favour of leaving the current regulation as is: 1 (20.0%) TOTAL 5 out of 8 - (62.5% responded) As indicated above, 4 out of 5 respondents, or 80.0%, are in favour of prohibiting stopping from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday on the north side of Dunbar Road from Glasgow Street to Duchess Avenue. ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: This initiative falls under the Community Priority of Quality of Life. "Work with partners, including all orders of government, to create a culture of safety in our community." By working with the neighbourhood, on-street parking concerns have been addressed. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The approximate cost for sign installations for the roadway is $800 and will be taken from the existing sign maintenance budget. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: INFORM — This report has been posted to the City's website with the agenda in advance of the council / committee meeting. CONSULT - Residents were surveyed regarding this proposed parking prohibition through a mail out sent in November 2014.
