SUBJECT: NOISE EXEMPTION REQUEST— GRAND RIVER
AMAZING RACE, KIWANIS PARK
RECOMMENDATION:
That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be
granted to the Grand River Amazing Race at Kiwanis between the hours of 9AM and 6PM
on June 20, 2015.
BACKGROUND:
The organizing committee for The Grand River Amazing Race is holding their annual charity
race at Kiwanis Park on June 20, 2015. The event will take place outside, thus they are
requesting an exemption from the City's Noise By-law (Chapter 450).
REPORT:
This fundraising event has been taking place in the Region over the past 3 years. This will be
the first year it is being held at Kiwanis Park. A sound system will be used to play recorded
music and to operate the race start line between the hours of 9am and 6pm. Funds raised by
the race go directly to local charities.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
The aforementioned amendments support the Community Priority of Quality of Life, as
contained in the City's Strategic Plan.
