Home My WebLink AboutEnv - 2015-03-19 - Item 3 - Committeee Liaisons, 2015 Air Quality in Kitchener Best Bets Date: March 5,2015 To: Chair and members of the Environmental Committee From: Barbara Steiner, Senior Environmental Planner Subject: FinalBest Bets for Air Quality Subcommittee Selection The Air Quality in Kitchener 2010 concluded that these actions have largely been completed or are ongoing (staff reportCSD-14-114). Themajority of Recommended Actions have been addressed either through the annual Five Best Betsprocess or through City plans, policies and practices adopted from 2006 to 2014. Therefore, Environmental Committee (November 20, 2014) and Kitchener Council (December : 15, 2014) respectively recommended and resolved THAT in lieu of updating the report and selecting in Air Quality in KitchenerBest Bets 2015 the following actions be taken: A) the remaining as outlined in Table 2 of Report CSD-14- Recommended Actions 114 be referred to Environmental Committee subcommittees and staff for investigation into their feasibility and usefulness in promoting air quality improvements and a status report be provided to the May 2015 Environmental Committee; and B) future progress on the theme of be referred to the annual report Air Quality card for the as the appropriate mechanism Strategic Plan for the Environment improvement; and C) this modified approach be reflected in the Work Plan to be prepared for the new 2015-16 term of the Environmental Committee. Table 2 from Staff Report CSD-14-114 (attached) outlines all of the Recommended Actions from the Air Quality in Kitchener 2010report that the audit revealed had not yet been addressed. Seven (7) of these outstanding actions are appropriate for work by subcommittees of the Environmental Committee as indicated in Table 2. Therefore, at the March meeting, the Environmental Committee should assign members to subcommittees in order to undertake this work and establish milestones to report back to the Environmental Committee,with a status report to the May 2015 meeting. IMMEDIATE A 1. Seek membership among Environmental Committee members for a subcommittee to pursue each of the seven (7) remaining Best Bets outlined below in the table. One (1) to four (4) members can work on each subcommittee.
