PREPARED BY: Justin Mishko, Traffic Technologist,

WARD(S) INVOLVED: Ward 10
DATE OF REPORT: April 24, 2015
REPORT NO.: INS-15-048
SUBJECT: On-street Parking Regulations — Peitz Avenue
RECOMMENDATION:
That parking be prohibited at any time on the both sides of Peitz Avenue from
Dekay Street to Waterloo Street; and further,
That the Uniform Traffic Bylaw be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
Peitz Avenue is a local road with residential land use on either side of the right-of-way.
As a result of a scheduled capital reconstruction project, parking regulations will have to
be reviewed.
REPORT:
Currently, on-street parking is permitted on the west side of Peitz Avenue between
Dekay Street and Waterloo Street for a maximum of two consecutive hours; and,
permitted on the east side for a maximum of three consecutive hours as outlined in the
City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138. Prior to the reconstruction of
Peitz Avenue, a standard urban cross-section complete with curb and gutter was not
present.
As part of the reconstruction of Peitz Avenue, new sidewalks will be installed on both
sides of the roadway. This will result in a narrower road width and on-street parking
cannot be safely accommodated.
Residents in the immediate area were notified of this proposed parking regulation
change at the project design public meeting held in September 2014 as well as the
preconstruction public meeting held in March, 2015. Staff also sent a notification letter in

to the reconstruction project.
