That Strategic priority #2 – Strong and Resilient Economy be revised as follows: We will work within a collaborative network of city-builders to create a dynamic and prosperous Kitchener that is rich with employment opportunities and successful business ventures that can grow and thrive within the broader global economy; 2. That Strategy 2.1 be revised as follows: Foster a business environment that stimulates innovation and job creation, helping startup entrepreneurs establish and grow their business; 3. That Strategy 3.3 be revised as follows: Manage growth, curb urban sprawl, and foster more mixed-use development, ensuring new development is integrated with the diversity and character of the surrounding community; and, That reference to the city’s ongoing commitment to working in partnership with citizens and community stakeholders to achieve the long-term vision of the city be incorporated in the Strategic Plan; and, That Strategies 1.4 and 1.5 remain as part of Strategic Priority #1 Open Government; and further, Re: PSI Clause 1 That staff be directed to prepare a budget and a four-year business plan that identifies specific actions and the allocation of resources to effectively execute the approved strategies. BACKGROUND: th On August 10, Planning and Strategic Initiatives Committee considered staff report CAO-15- 015 - City of Kitchener Strategic Plan: Recommended Strategic Priorities and Strategies, and approved the following recommendation: That the recommended strategic priorities and strategies for 2015-2018 as outlined in the Appendix to report CAO-15-015 be approved subject to the following: consideration be given to include reference to partnerships, possibly in strategy 5.2; replace the word ‘grain’ in strategy 3.3 with one that is more commonly understood; revise wording in strategic priority 2 to include reference to working in partnership with others to achieve our economic goals; include reference to start-ups in strategic priority 2; and, That strategies 1.4 and 1.5 be referred to the August 24, 2015 Council meeting to allow time for staff to consider if they would be more appropriately listed as part of strategic priority 5, Effective and Efficient City Services; and further, That staff be directed to prepare a budget and a four-year business plan that identifies specific actions and the allocation of resources to effectively execute the approved strategies. REPORT: The following changes have been made to the Strategic Priorities and Strategies for the 2015- 2018 Strategic Plan: 1. Re: PSI Clause 1 A paragraph will be added to the context of the Strategic Plan that makes reference to the city’s ongoing commitment to working in partnership with citizens and community stakeholders to achieve the long-term vision of the city.Strategies 1.4 and 1.5 will remain as part of Strategic Priority #1 Open Government ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: The development of the City of Kitchener 2015 Business Plan aligns to the following areas of the city’s current strategic plan: Community Priorities: Leadership and Community Engagement; Effective & Efficient Government: Organizational Governance; People Plan: A Culture of Accountability and A Culture of Learning. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None at this time. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: INFORM – This report has been posted to the City’s website with the agenda in advance of the council / committee meeting.
