WARD(S) INVOLVED: Ward 10
DATE OF REPORT: September 21, 2015
REPORT NO.: INS-15-087
SUBJECT: Dane Street— One-way Road Designation
RECOMMENDATIONS:
That traffic on Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and Crescent Street be
limited to the southbound direction only; and further,
That the Uniform Traffic By-law be amended accordingly.
BACKGROUND:
Transportation Services has received a request to review the existing traffic operation
along Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and Crescent Street. The request
cited concerns regarding vehicles using Dane Street as a short cut from King Street
East to Weber Street East.
REPORT:
Currently, Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and Crescent Street is operating
as a two-way roadway. Parking is prohibited on the east (odd-numbered) side of Dane
Street between Crescent Street and Borden Avenue North. It is also prohibited on the
west (even-numbered) side from a point 22 metres north of Crescent Street to a point 21
metres north thereof and from a point 124 metres north of Crescent Street to a point 20
metres north thereof. Otherwise, parking is permitted for a maximum period of three
consecutive hours, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No.
2007-138.

In order to address this request, Transportation Services surveyed residents regarding
a proposal to limit Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and Crescent Street to
southbound travel only. The survey results are as follows:
In favour of limiting Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and Crescent Street to
southbound travel only. 11 (73.3%)
In favour of Dane Street between Borden Avenue North and Crescent Street remaining
as a two-way roadway. 4 (26.7%)
Total: 15 out of 20 (75% responded)
Therefore, based on the results of this survey, it is recommended to convert Dane
Street to one-way traffic operation from Borden Avenue North to Crescent Street. This
conversion will be completed through the scheduled reconstruction of Dane Street in
2016. It is proposed to maintain parking on the west (even-numbered) side of Dane
Street.

from the existing sign maintenance budget.
