point in Report Card)
the minutes from October 7, 2015 were approved by Compass Kitchener.

2. Follow up to Minutes
■ Nothing at this time.
3. Digital Kitchener
• Justin circulated and reviewed information on Digital Kitchener, a new initiative to create our first community digital
strategy. The purpose of the srategy is to seek out opportunitites that will use information, technology and digital
resources to imporove the way we live our lives.
• What does this mean? Justin says... the possibilities are limitless! For some, this might mean having more real -time
information pushed to their smart phone about things that matter most to them. For others, it might mean having
access to free public Wi -Fi anywhere in Kitchener, or using concepts like crowdsourcing to increase civic
participation.
• He then broke the committee out into two groups, each considering a different question:
• How might we use information and technology to become a more innovative city?
• What can we do to increase technology skills and access in Kitchener?
• Once members had the opportunity brainstorm ideas for each of these questions, Justin recapped some of the
highlights from each of the two groups.
• Justin thanked Compass Kitchener members for their participation. Any further questions can be directed to Justin
at justin.watkins @kitchener.ca or 519 - 741 -2200 x7203.
4. Subcommittee Reports
• Engaged Citizens - There is potential for a coop student in January. The team will be meeting in the next month in
order to consider what should be completed prior to January, and to adjust timelines accordingly.
• Neighbourhood Strategy - continues to meet as an overall group. They have broken the vision down into themes.
Three CK members participate in the research component and have been asked to review a city and its strategy,
and then return to full group to consider commonalities. Next each will take one of these components and research
it further, then return to the research team. All information will then be presented to the greater Neighbourhood
team.
5. Compass Kitchener Advisory Committee Gathering
■ Laurie to set meeting with Daniella, Mark and Fadi prior to the next meeting.
Report Card - review committee input
• Pete provided each member of Compass Kitchener with an envelope with an invite to participate in input for the
reportcard. He requested feedback from members on how they would feel if they received this in their mail box and
if they would be inclined to participate.
• Letters will be addressed to 'Occupant' or'Resident' rather than to a specific person as this is considered
confidential information.
■ The committee debated adding a deadline to the letter, ultimately deciding to continue without a deadline.
■ Some additional language and layout changes were suggeseted; Laurie to update accordingly.
November 4, 2015 2 CITY OF KITCHENER
■ Next, Chris provided committee members with a summary of committee input received over the last month in each
of the 5 priority areas. Section by section, committee members reviewed input received and provided comments as
a group for further consideration on what information they feel is necessary to measure the city's progress on the
Strategic Plan.
7. Other Business
■ January meeting would normally fall on January 6th, and we would like to shift it to January 13th.
■ Workplan taken to council had an error, so it must be corrected on the record. In reference to participation in the
Neighbourhood Strategy, we kept old intent, and infact, once we began working with team, a new intent was
decided upon. Updated version was handed out. This is the new official workplan for Compass Kitchener
