BACKGROUND: In June 2015, IRC Building Sciences Group performed a visual survey of the existing roof sections at Fire Hall #6, 149 Pioneer Drive. In their report, they recommended the replacement of the flat roof portion over the living quarters of the building. The existing roof system at Fire Hall #6 is original to the building which is approximately 23 years old. The roof is exhibiting signs of significant deterioration and potential failure consistent with roofing systems approaching the end of their life. REPORT: Quotations were picked up by the City’s five (5) prequalified roofing contractors and by the closing date of Wednesday November 4, 2015, five (5) quotations had been received. The following quotes were received: Bid Price Flynn Canada Ltd. Kitchener ON $154,450.66 Atlantic Roofers Ontario Ltd. Hamilton ON $159,464.60 Semple Gooder Roofing Corporation Ayr ON $161,341.40 Viana Roofing & Sheet Metal Limited Toronto ON $164,853.44 The quotations were reviewed by J. Cietwierkowski, IRC Building Sciences Group, the City’s Consultant, J. Edmondson, Manager, Facilities Management, D. Hanby, Supervisor, Facilities Management, and R. Scott, Buyer, who concur with the above recommendation. Flynn Canada Ltd. has committed to holding pricing firm until May 1, 2016 and the work will commence as soon as weather permits. ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: The recommendation of this report supports the achievement of the city’s strategic vision through the delivery of core service. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The net cost for this quotation (A), is fair and reasonable for a project of this scope and the upset limit is within the funding available (B) for this project. Funding for this project is included within the approved capital budget. The estimated surplus (D) will remain within the account to fund future roof replacements.
