BACKGROUND: Copper Leaf Street is a local roadway with primarily residential land use. In response to a request, on-street parking regulations have been reviewed. REPORT: Currently, on-street parking is permitted on both sides of Copper Leaf Street from Activa Avenue to Wisteria Court for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive hours, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-law No. 2007-138. Transportation Services received a request to review the existing on-street parking regulations. The request cited concerns related to school traffic during student pick-up and drop-off times, impeding driveway access for local residents. Residents in the immediate area were surveyed on this proposed parking regulation change in December 2015. The results of the survey are as follows: *** This information is available in accessible formats upon request. *** Please call 519-741-2345 or TTY 1-866-969-9994 for assistance. 5 - 1 In favour of prohibiting stopping from 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM st and 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, September 1 th to June 30 on both sides of Copper Leaf Street from Activa Avenue to a point 75 metres east thereof: 2 (67.0%) In favour of leaving the current regulation as is: 1 (33.0%) TOTAL 3 out of 18 - (17.0% responded) As indicated above, 2 out of 3 respondents, or 67%, are in favour of prohibiting stopping st from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday, September 1 to th June 30 on both sides of Copper Leaf Street from Activa Avenue to a point 75 metres east thereof. ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: The recommendation of this report supports the achievement of the city’s strategic vision through the delivery of core service. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The approximate cost for implementing “No Stopping 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM, Monday – stth Friday, September 1 – June 30” signage is $1000 and will be taken from the existing sign maintenance budget. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: INFORM – This report has been posted to the city’s website with the agenda in advance of the council / committee meeting. The constituents were made aware of the proposed changes to prohibit stopping during the specified school times in this section of Copper Leaf Street. CONSULT - Residents were surveyed regarding this proposed parking regulation change through a mail out sent in December 2015, with majority support received for prohibiting stopping during the specified school times.
