HomeMy WebLinkAboutHK - 2016-02-02 - IF1 - Region of Waterloo HPAC Memorandum - Support of Heritage Best Practices Planning, Development & Legislative Services Cultural Services Date: January 15, 2016 Memorandum To: Rob Horne, Commissioner of Planning, Development & Legislative Services Cc: Leon Bensason, Coordinator, Cultural Heritage Planning, City of Kitchener Sandra Parks, Heritage Planner, City of Kitchener From: Members of the Heritage Planning Advisory Committee (HPAC) Subject: Support for the City of Kitchener Heritage Best Practices Report The Region of Waterloo’s Heritage Planning Advisory Committee (HPAC) commends the City of Kitchener’s efforts to prepare a series of Heritage Best Practices and would like to show their support for the recommendations compiled in report CSD-15-091, presented to City Council on Mon. Dec. 14, 2015. The Committee recognizes that all of the recommendations in the Heritage Best Practices Report represent effective and proactive tools, and is particularly supportive of following proposed actions: Establish a Built Heritage Emergency Management Protocol, using the City of Hamilton’s model as a template Add heritage considerations to Facility Management's standard property management checklist and proactively prepare Conservation Plans for City- owned cultural heritage resources 2032722 1 IF1 - 1 Occupy vacant heritage properties, such as the former Royal Canadian Legion building at 43 Ontario St. N. Establish a consistent annual process to designate identified cultural heritage resources, including City-owned structures HPAC welcomes opportunities to develop partnerships with the City of Kitchener, other area municipalities, community organizations, academic institutions and businesses, to broaden the local support base for heritage.
