Saunderson, Committee Administrator CSD-16-009 - DESIGNATION UNDER PART IV OF THE ONTARIO HERITAGE ACT 1. - 800 KING STREET EAST The Committee considered Community Services Department report CSD-16-009, dated January 11, 2016, requesting that the Clerk be directed to publish a Notice of Intention to designate the property municipally addressed as 800 King Street East under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, as being of cultural heritage value and interest. Ms. S. Parks presented the Report. Mr. Harvey Kehl, representative from the First Mennonite Church, addressed the Committee in support of the designation, noting it was at their request staff initiated the designation process for 800 King Street East, the First Mennonite Church Cemetery, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. In response to questions, Mr. Kehl advised that the cemetery is adjacent to St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, municipally addressed as 243 Weber Street East, noting the cemetery is owned by the City. He indicated the cemeteries functioned separately with a chain link fence between the two properties. Questions were raised on whether consideration had been given to designating the Lutheran Cemetery as well, noting from the presentation it has already been designated a Cultural Heritage Landscape and may also warrant designation. Ms. Parks advised the recommendation only includes the First Mennonite Church Cemetery at this time. She indicated the designation process was started at the property owners request so consideration was not given to designating the Lutheran Cemetery at this time. She further advised that the Designation Sub-Committee is due to meet following the Committee of the Whole meeting this date to review a list of potential properties for designation, noting the Lutheran Cemetery could be reviewed by the Sub-Committee at that time. It was noted any recommendation arising from this matter would be considered by Council at their meeting on February 22, 2016. On motion by Mr. M. Timmerman - it was resolved: “That pursuant to Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act, the Clerk be directed to publish a Notice of Intention to designate the property municipally addressed as 800 King Street East as being of cultural heritage value and interest, as outlined in Community Services Department Report CSD-16-009.” HERITAGE BEST PRACTICES - HERITAGE PROMOTION SUB-COMMITTEE REPORT 2. - OPEN FORUM The Committee considered the Heritage Promotions Sub-Committee information materials, including their Agenda and meeting notes, dated January 18, 2016.
