Prepared by: Hilda Sturm February 2016 FINANCE DEPARTMENT fonds. – 1883-2005. – 9 m of textual records, and 1 artifact. The Finance Department within the City of Kitchener manages public funds and provides certain mandated City services directly to the community. The Finance Division has 3 areas within it that oversee various services. Accounting: oversees payroll, accounts payable, financial reporting, asset accounting, sales tax, general ledger, contracts and banking. Revenue: oversees billing and collection of property tax, utility bills, rental water heaters, stormwater rate, billing of appliance financing and miscellaneous invoicing, meter reading, and bill and parking ticket payments. Financial Planning: compiles budgets and variance reports, prepares financial analyses, and manages the City’s debt, reserve, and investments portfolios. The fonds consist of five series, which comprise annual reports, correspondence cash books, general ledgers, financial statements, budget information and artifacts. Title based on the contents of the fonds. Transferred to the archives from Finance divisions. 1: Annual Reports. – 1907-2005. – 170cm. This series consists of City and departmental annual reports. An index of the annual reports is available in Appendix A. 2: Financial Information. – 1879-1996. – 400 cm. This series consists primarily of general information , reports, finance journals and auditors statements. An index of the information is available in Appendix B. 3: General Ledger. – 1902-1968. - 128cm. This series consists of General ledgers of Berlin and Kitchener. An index of the records is available in Appendix C. 4: Cash Books. – 1901-1988. – 164 cm. This series consists of cash books from Berlin and Kitchener. An index of the records is available in Appendix D. 5: Artifacts. – 1 item. This series contains signature plates of the city. An index of the records is available in Appendix E.
