SUBJECT: NOISE EXEMPTION REQUEST — CANADIAN CANCER
SOCIETY, RELAY FOR LIFE
RECOMMENDATION:
That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the
granted to the Canadian Cancer Society, Waterloo
Event at Eastwood Collegiate between the hours

The Waterloo Region Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society is organizing their annual Relay For
Life fundraiser at Eastwood Collegiate on May 22 and 23, 2015. The event will take place
outside, thus they are requesting an exemption from the City's Noise By -law (Chapter 450).
REPORT:
This fundraising event has been taking place for several years at local high schools. This is the
first year that it is being held at Eastwood Collegiate. Live music and entertainment will be
taking place until 11 pm. Event organizers will be positioning the performance stage to face
Weber St East, where there are no residential homes situated (see attached map). Recorded
music and a hourly announcement will be played between the hours of 11 pm and 7am.
In addition, the By -law Enforcement office has confirmed that any live music or performances
taking place after 11 pm will be held in the school gymnasium.
