SUBJECT: NOISE EXEMPTION REQUEST - OKTOBERFEST EVENTS

RECOMMENDATION:
That an exemption to Chapter 450 (Noise) of the City of Kitchener Municipal Code be
granted to K-W Oktoberfest Inc. for a series of events being held at various clubs
between October 7 and October 15, 2016, as outlined in the letter from K-W Oktoberfest
Inc., dated March 29, 2016, attached to Report CSD-16-056.
BACKGROUND:
The K-
Municipal Code for a series of events that are being held at 8 clubs, during the 2016 Oktoberfest

festivities, running from October 7 to the 15, 2016. A copy of their request is attached.
REPORT:
Staff within the By-law Enforcement Division reports that the number of noise complaints
relating to these events over the past several years has been minimal at best. Typically, there
appears to be a large a degree of acceptance by City residents to these events, given their vast
popularity and broad community benefits. The level of cooperation that staff has received from
event organizers has been positive.
ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN:
Approval of a noise exemption request supports the Community Priorities of Quality of Life and
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
Oktoberfest events are widely advertised throughout the entire community.
