MAYOR AND COUNCIL RIDE
5.
Mr. Boos gave a short explanation of the purpose for the Mayor and Council ride
detailing past rides as examples.
Mr. Dedes emphasized the importance of these rides and noted that one of
the trails featured in the last ride was redone shortly after.
Councillor Fernandes noted that Ward 4 was the focus of the last ride and
suggested a new ward be featured in the upcoming ride. She also mentioned
that dates and times should be picked soon so councillors have enough time
to commit. A possible time was 4 6 so that more committee members would
be able to attend without having to take time off of work.
Committee members discussed date options
Mr. Pimentel told Mr. Boos that he would provide him with a contact in the
Committee members discussed areas that could be highlighted on the ride
and decided to create a working group that would focus on making a detailed
route.

Mr. Drasdo encouraged the committee to have a bigger presence and be
more involved in the next BikeFest.

bridges more bike friendly. Mr. Parris mentioned that all new bridges will have
the bike ramps installed on the stairs to make it easier to go up and down
with a bicycle.
Ms. Rodriguez suggested having more community partners at BikeFest
Mr. Hoshowsky thought changing the venue to Victoria Park would make
more sense than City Hall.
Mr. Drasdo requested that possible dates be looked at for next
BikeFest.
Mr. Pimentel provided the committee with an overview of the debrief meeting that
was held with Cycle for Angels and listed some identified areas of improvement for

Mr. Pimentel asked the Committee if they would be interested in being the organizers
for BikeFest in the future.
Councillor Fernandes suggested that the committee be provided with a list of
duties they would be expected to handle if they decided to undertake the
project.
SUMMER SOCIAL
7.
Mr. Boos explained to the committee that since there is no official committee meeting
in August, members have traditionally planned a social gathering in the regular
meetings stead. After some discussion, committee members agreed to meet at the
Boathouse for 6:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday in August.
VISIONING FOR NEXT TERM
8.
Mr. Boos asked members what they thought the focus for the next committee term
should be.
Mr. Dedes listed a few items that he believed the committee should continue
pursuing.
Improved trail crossings
o
Segregated bicycle facilities
o
Mr. Hoshowsky noted that connectivity should also be an item that the
committee continues to push for.
Ms. Lanoue explained to the committee that visioning for next term is an agenda
item because attendance and engagement this past term have been very low. The
work done by volunteers is very valuable and the City would like to see committee
members be more involved and passionate about what they are doing. In light of this
information the committee was asked to think about what improvements could be
made to the committees structure in order to improve attendance and engagement.
Councillor Fernandes asked if having sub-committees was really effective,
and suggested instead that working groups be created around projects that
the committee is passionate about.
Mr. Drasdo agreed that having working groups would be a good idea
because it would also open the committee to having more volunteers to help
with projects.
Mr. Dedes suggested that a survey be created to ask committee members
how they think attendance and engagement could be improved.
Mr. Dedes suggested another important item to continue pursuing would be cycling
education.

Mr. Pimentel gave a brief overview of cycling into the future and suggested
inviting Phil Martin at the beginning of the next committee term to give a
presentation on the work that he does in schools.
The committee continued to discuss what would make meetings more exciting to
attend.
Councillor Fernandes suggested having hard copies of plans, visions, and
projects for the term.
Mr. Boos thought that it would help if the committee chose a big picture item
to champion for the term.
Mr. Dedes noted that it may be useful to have past committee members
come to the first meeting of the new term to answer questions and explain
roles and responsibilities.
