Minutes were provided to the group for review. No changes at this time, however if corrections are necessary, please
email to Jenn.
The minutes from February 3, 2016 were approved by Compass Kitchener.
Moved by Graham, second by Daniella. Passed.
2. Follow up to Minutes
■ Jenn is following up with IT in response to issues being experienced with documents attached to meeting requests.
Action:
Jenn to look into this further.
3. Subcommittee Reports
■ Actively Engaged Citizens — each member agreed to do research in various areas and some preliminary research
has been completed. Another meeting is scheduled for this group, more info to follow at next meeting.
■ Graham will be shifting his participation to the Report Card process and potentially another subcommittee as there
has been limited action regarding Youth Engagement for various reasons.
4. Advisory Committee Gathering Follow up
■ Approximately 50 committee members and staff attended and participated in this gathering, which took place on
February 23ron the 10th floor of City Hall. The process was well structured to receive input/feedback to be used in
the upcoming Compass Kitchener Report Card.
■ Members provided the following feedback:
o The nametags were a good idea, although it was not entirely clear to participants that they were to
use their committee's label.
o Timing at each of the tables was discussed, some felt timing was appropriate, others would have
preferred longer discussion time to accommodate continuation of conversation.
o Updates from each of the committees are appreciated, very informative and interesting. It would be
beneficial to have these provided from the same speaking space and consider a microphone to
ensure update can be heard by all participants.
Report Card Data Review and Next Steps — Laurie Maicher
■ Laurie provided an overview of the content contained within the very large binder provided to each member. She
reviewed the rough draft page for information gathering, followed by instructions for the final documents. Laurie
clearly articulated dates and expectations for this process.
2015 Ctizen Report
Card-SummryTerrple
■ Compass Kitchener discussed the directions Laurie provided and the content contained in each section of the
binder. Information was drawn together based on conversations with the full committee at past meetings as well as
discussion with the Report Card subcommittee. Laurie clarified, no additional search for information is necessary,
however indicated if members feel very strong about a particular information item missing from the binder content,
please connect with her as soon as possible to consider further. The committee will endeavour to complete the
review at the April meeting, however if absolutely necessary, May meeting is available as well.
March 2, 2016 2 CITY OF KITCHENER
■ Further, Laurie reminded the committee that this strategic plan was only just approved by Council in August 2015,
and will run for a four year period. As a result, many projects are in beginning phases or may not begin until later in
the 4 year time frame.
■ Compass Kitchener members were asked to bring this information binder to the April meeting as it will be necessary
for reviewing each of the five focus areas.
6. Other Business
■ The Neighbourhood Strategy will be launched at Stanley Park Community Centre.
■ The 2016 Volunteer Appreciation Event is taking place Friday May 13th at the Apollo Cinema.
