HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-10-27 DOWNTOWN ACTION & ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES October 27, 2016 City of Kitchener The Downtown Action & Advisory Committee met this date, commencing at 4:00 Present: Melissa Bowman, Chair; Erin Atchison; Andre Chin; David Harmes; Jessica Kropf; Kevin Muir; Brian Santos; Scott Thompson; George Trihenea; Brad Watson; Mallory Wheldon; and Linda Zensner Staff: Cory Bluhm, Manager of Downtown Development Eric Rumble, Downtown Marketing & Program Co-ordinator Monika Grau, Downtown Development Officer Sandy Curzon, Committee Administrator Michelle Drake, Neighbourhood Strategy Project Manager 1. Neighbourhood Strategy Update In January M. Drake, Project Manager introduced Neighbourhood Strategy by outlining 7 characteristics of great neighbourhoods. A massive community engagement process commenced using surveys, social media, focus groups, neighbourhood parties, etc. with over 5,000 participants. From these discussions, the project team came up with 18 recommendations which are outlined under three themes: 1. Great Places 2. Connect People 3. Working Together Next Steps: The final Neighbourhood Strategy will be presented to City Council in February 2017. 2. Downtown Action Plan (future) The Downtown Action Plan 2017-2020 is now under review. Today DAAC members brainstormed ideas under the following topics: 1. Creating a positive experience downtown 2. Addressing social issues 3. Encouraging additional growth : Next Steps Brainstorming session #2 will take place at the next DAAC meeting of November 24, 2016. 3.
