REPORT NO.: FCS-17-032
SUBJECT: T17-006 Modular Carpet Tile
___________________________________________________________________________
RECOMMENDATION:
That Tender T17-006 Modular Carpet Tile, be awarded to Twin City Tile Co. Ltd.
Kitchener, Ontario, at their tendered price of $349,212., plus H.S.T. of $45,397.56,
for a total of $394,609.56, for a five (5) year term, with an option to renew for one
(1) additional five (5) year term.
BACKGROUND:
The current City Hall building has been occupied for 24 years. Upon initial construction,
a traditional broadloom carpet had been selected and was installed across nine (9)
floors. At the time, the custom pattern required a minimum quantity to be purchased
and the City stored the excess carpet rolls for use within past renovations and repairs.
This stock has now been depleted and the opportunity exists to integrate modular
commercial carpet tile on future renovations and repairs.
The advantages of using modular commercial carpet tile include:
Generates less waste at installation and at end of life
Made from a minimum 40% recycled products
Ease of installation for large areas or spot repairs
Less occupant disruption to install or replace
Less carpet off-gassing (off-gassing - the evaporation of chemicals from a
material)
