SUBJECT: PARK NAMING 11 GORDON AVE.

RECOMMENDATION:
That the neighbourhood park located at 11 Gordon Ave,be named Gordon Green,
and further;
That staff be directed to install the standard park identification sign.
BACKGROUND:
Through working with the Central Frederick
Neighbourhood Association (CFNA) on other
park initiatives (the installation of community
boards),Operations, Environmental Services
division staff received a formal request to
name the park located at 11 Gordon Ave. to
Gordon Park, (alternatively Gordon Green or
Gordon Parkette).
The park contains a small playstructure,
walkway, seating and community board.

REPORT:
In accordance with City Policy I-475 Naming/Re-Naming Corporate Facilities, staff
performed abackground file review and determined that the internal data base
system had identified the 0.06ha site as Mansion Green, although it was unclear as to
whether a park sign was ever installed. Currently, a sign identifying the park name does
not exist.

The CFNA through their Facebook page identifies general support that the Gordon
(Park, Green or Parkette,) name is preferred over Mansion Green. The CFNA also
acknowledges that the Mansion Green name is confusing for the neighbourhood as the
community garden at Weber Park is also locally referred to as Mansion Green.
In keeping with the park classification system for parks less than 0.2ha in size, staff

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS:
The cost to construct park identification signage will be installed through the current
park maintenance operating account.

COLLABORATE The recommended park name request originated with the Central
Frederick Neighbourhood Association and was posted through their Facebook page and
discussed at their monthly neighbourhood association meetings.
