BACKGROUND: In 2010 Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), a destructive introduced tree pest, was found in south Kitchener. EAB is now well established across the city. As part of the city’s EAB management strategy, the City will chemically inject approximately 480 healthy ash trees (greater than 30 cm in diameter) along city streets and active parkland this year. Injected trees are protected for two years, except when EAB populations are at its peak. During this peak time, it is recommended to treat two out of every three years. The use of chemical injections to protect large healthy ash trees from EAB is recognized as a cost effective tool that allows municipalities to better manage their removal costs, while at the same time preserving a part of the ash tree canopy which is currently providing important social, environmental and economic benefits to the community. The average annual spend over the past three (3) years was $131,647.40, before taxes. The actual spend will depend on the level of activity throughout the term of the contract. *** This information is available in accessible formats upon request. *** Please call 519-741-2345 or TTY 1-866-969-9994 for assistance. 1.vi. - 1 REPORT: Tenders were advertised publicly on the City of Kitchener website and the Internet through the Ontario Public Buyers Electronic Tendering Information System.
