BACKGROUND: On December 1, 2016, Councilappointed citizens to various advisory committees, boards and special committees including the Economic Development Advisory Committee(EDAC)and the Downtown Action and Advisory Committee (DAAC). At that time, Council appointed twelve (12) community representatives to EDACbut there remained vacancies in various sectors including Manufacturing.As well, nine (9) citizens were appointed to DAAC but avacancyremained in the sector ofBuilding Owner/Local Developer. The protocol for filling mid-term vacancies is to first review the unassigned applicants from the initial Advisory Committee recruitmentprocess. If there are no applicants who can be assigned, staff then looks atthe Volunteer Database to see if there are any citizens who have indicated either aninterest in serving on a particular Advisory Committee or on any Advisory Committee in general. If any, these people are contacted and provided with the Terms of Reference for the AdvisoryCommittee for which recruiting is taking place along with an application form and instructions on how to submit their applications.Staff also considers anyone who has applied to fill any specific vacancy as listed on the City’s websiteas is the case inthese applicants. *** This information is available in accessible formats upon request. *** Please call 519-741-2345 or TTY 1-866-969-9994 for assistance. 3.- 1 If there are more applications than vacancies, the applications are forwarded to the Nominating Committee to recommend a slate to Council for decision. If there are not, the Director of Legislated Services/City Clerk makes a recommendation directly to Council. REPORT: In response to the vacancies listedon the City’s website, the City has received one (1) application for thevacancy in the Manufacturingsectorfor EDAC and one (1) application for the Building Owner/Local Developer vacancy on DAAC. A listing of those applicants for EDAC and DAACis presented as a suggested slate for Council’s consideration and is attached as Appendix ‘A’. ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: The recommendation of this report supports the achievement of the city’s strategic vision through the delivery of core service. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: None at this time. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: INFORM – This report has been posted to the City’s website with the agenda in advance of the council / committee meeting.
