Discussion was guided by the approved Work Plan for the previous (2015 – 2016) term of the committee. In addition, members were requested to provide suggestions on the types of things that they would like to see the Environmental Committee accomplish in the coming term. Attached is the Final Draftof the committee’s Work Plan for the 2017 – 2018 term. It incorporates the input of the committee from discussions during the regular meetingsof February 16 and April 20, 2017. As with the previous Work Plan, this Final Draft is organized under the seven (7) themes of the City’s Strategic Plan for the Environment: 1.Natural Heritage System andRecreational Amenity Areas; 2.Water Resources; 3.Air Quality; 4.Land Resource andGrowth Management; 5.Energy Systems; 6.Resource Consumption andWaste Management; and, 7.Environmental Education andPublic Awareness. Linking the Work Plan to the Strategic Plan for the Environmentensures that the actions undertaken by the committee are consistent with the City’s overall environmental objectives. As with the previous Work Plan, this one should also be considered a living document—one that can be updated throughout the term as significant new environmental matters either emerge or come before the committee. The Work Plan will be appended to all future agendas in order to help keep members up-to-date on all of theircomponent initiatives, to identify any sub- committees assigned to those projects, and to track any timelines associated with aproject. Please note that three (3) subcommittees are yet to be selected at the May 18, 2017 meeting. These are:Water Management Stewardship;Green Development Guidelines; and, Indicators for the Strategic Plan for the EnvironmentReport Card. Please reflect on which of these may be of interest to you. Because of quorum rules, subcommittees cannot be comprised of more than four (4) members. Once these final decisions are made, the Environmental Committee Work Plan for 2017 – 2018 can be approved by you and forwarded to Standing Committee and Council for their subsequent approval.
