BACKGROUND: Katherine Crescent and Dunbar Road are local roadways with primarily residential land use and are located in the direct vicinity of Westmount Public School, which is located on Glasgow Street. In response to resident requests,U-turn movement regulations have been reviewed. Currently, U-turns are permitted on these roadways, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-Law No. 2007-138. REPORT: Transportation Services reviewed the U-turn movement regulations in response to a resident request. The request cited difficulty accessing and egressing both the street and driveways when vehicles were parked on both sides of the street during school pick-up and drop-off times. Additionally, the request cited a high frequency of vehicles performing U-turns on Katherine Crescent and using private driveways to turn around after dropping of or picking up school children. These U-turns are damaging boulevard green space and posing a safety risk to residents and children walking to school. *** This information is available in accessible formats upon request. *** Please call 519-741-2345 or TTY 1-866-969-9994 for assistance. 5 - 1 Through a notification letter mailed out in April 2017, the immediately affected residents of Katherine Crescent and Dunbar Road were notified of the proposal to prohibit U-turns onKatherine Crescent and on Dunbar Road from Balmoral Drive to Brandon Avenue.
