The Downtown Action & Advisory Committee met this date, commencing at 4:09pm
Present:
Chair, David Harmes; Melissa Bowman; Councillor Frank Etherington; Aaron
Francis; Bryan Gracan; Ruben Grin; Geoffrey Guin; David Harmes; Linda Jutzi;
Bryn Ossington; and Andrea Santi
Staff: Cory Bluhm, Interim Executive Director Economic Development
Emily Robson, Interim Manager of Downtown Development
Eric Rumble, Downtown Marketing & Program Co-coordinator
1. Information Items/Unfinished Business
Arts & Culture Advisory Committee
was a joint meeting between the arts and culture advisory committees from Kitchener,
Waterloo and Cambridge. The meeting helped to foster a collaborative outlook and
explore where the work of each committee aligns with that of the others. The
committees discussed different aspects of the upcoming public art installations at LRT
stops
Shape DTK 2020 the following motion was put forward:

Discussion/Comments:
Are these priorities locked in? Supportive of having them somewhat vague
in order to be responsive as things change
Staff will share an implementation plan in the fall
Questions around how such a plan is implemented at the city and how this
plan intersects with others
City and BIA staff provided an overview of how strategic plans work together
and how having a joint approach leverages resources and aims to maximize
impact
General support for the directionnot a surprise to members as they have
been consulted throughout the process

2. Discussion Items
DTK 2020 - Priority #3: Champion a Caring and Collaborative Community
The committee was divided into 2 groups
Each group considered the community assets in the downtown that are currently
contributing towards a caring and collaborative community and how these could be
further strengthened to create a broader impact
The combined ideas, from the two groups, for initiatives include:

Ώ Art crawls
Ώ Ways to promote things happening downtown or to participate in an
innovative way
Ώ Neighbourhood notice boards
Ώ
Ώ Grants/funds for community building activities
Ώ Strengthen downtown neighbour connections
Ώ Building a welcoming pathway from City Hall to Victoria Park
Ώ More support for community gardens
Ώ Incentives to leave office buildings
