BACKGROUND: Katherine Crescent is a local roadway with primarily residential land use. In response to a resident request,the current on-street parking regulations have been reviewed. Currently, on-street parking is permitted at any time on the west side of Katherine Crescent between Dunbar Road to Brandon Avenue for a maximum period of three (3) consecutive hours and stopping is prohibited on the east side of Katherine Crescent from 8:00 am to 9:30 am and from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday September 1 to June 30, as outlined in the City of Kitchener Uniform Traffic By-Law No. 2007-138. REPORT: Transportation Services received a request to review the existing on-street parking regulations on Katherine Crescent. The request cited a safety concerns for school children utilizing the pathway that connects to Westmount Public School due to vehicles parking in front of and nearby the pathway. *** This information is available in accessible formats upon request. *** Please call 519-741-2345 or TTY 1-866-969-9994 for assistance. 1 - 1 Residents were notified and invited to express any concerns regarding the proposal to modify on-street parking regulations along the west (odd-numbered) side of Katherine Crescent through a letter mailed out in August 2017.No concerns were raised from the notified residents. Transportation Services is recommendingthat the current on-street parking regulations be amended to prohibit stoppingat any time on the west(even-numbered)sideof Katherine Crescentfrom a point 163 metres south of Dunbar Road to a point 6 metres south thereof.Thischange will enhance the safety of pedestrians utilizing the pathway to get to and from the school. ALIGNMENT WITH CITY OF KITCHENER STRATEGIC PLAN: The recommendation of this report supports the achievement of the c vision through the delivery of core service. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: The approximate cost for implementing signage for this section of Katherine Crescent is $250 and will be taken from the existing sign maintenance budget. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: INFORM This report has been posted to the ciadvance of the council / committee meeting. Affected citizens were made aware of the proposed changes to the on-street parking regulations in this section of Katherine Crescent through a mail out sent in August 2017. CONSULT Directly affected citizens or residents were notified regarding this proposed stopping regulation change and invited to comment on the proposed changes in August 2017.
