HomeMy WebLinkAboutSHCAC - 2017-10-05 - Item 1 - Neighbourhood Placemaking Challenge ‘ŷğƷ źƭ ƷŷĻ bĻźŭŷĬƚǒƩŷƚƚķ tƌğĭĻƒğƉźƓŭ /ŷğƌƌĻƓŭĻͪ The Neighbourhood Placemaking Challenge offers grants between $1,000 and $20,000 for projects that turn everyday spaces into destinations and gathering places that people want to spend time in. The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage more people of all ages and backgrounds to spend time in neighbourhood places, strengthen relationships between neighbours and be positively engaged in their neighbourhood. All successful grant recipients must complete their project by July 28-30, 2018. Applications are expected by residents, neighbourhood associations, businesses, artists, special interest groups and more. The grant is administered as an open competition meaning the best and most creative applications are awarded the grants. For full details about the grant, please visit lovemyhood.ca. ‘ŷǤ ğƩĻ ǝƚƌǒƓƷĻĻƩƭ ƓĻĻķĻķͪ We need volunteers to work collaboratively with each other and city staff to review applications to the Neighbourhood Placemaking Challenge and determine the winners of the grants. Be inspired by unique placemaking ideas proposed by our community Network with other passionate community volunteers and staff Gain experience in grant review processes and participate in decision-making Contribute to safe and thriving neighbourhoods ‘ŷƚ źƭ ƚƓ ƷŷĻ {ĻƌĻĭƷźƚƓ /ƚƒƒźƷƷĻĻͪ The Selection Committee will consist of equal representation between residents/volunteers and city staff, with one representative from the following groups: Residents/VolunteersStaff Safe & Healthy Advisory CommitteeNeighbourhood Development Office Economic Development Advisory CommitteeCommunity Centres Arts & Culture Advisory CommitteeEconomic Development Kitchener Youth Action CouncilPlanning Operations Environmental Services (Parks & SeniorsTrails) 1 - 1 YĻǤ ƷğƭƉƭ ğƓķ ƷźƒĻ ĭƚƒƒźƷƒĻƓƷ This is a one year volunteer placement from October - July, with the option to renew for a second year. DateTasksApproximate time On your own time, review all applicationsfor the 2-4 hours Early October larger grantsand make comments online Attend a review committee meeting to discuss and 3 hours Late October select grant recipients On your own time, review all applications for the 2-4 hours Early April smaller grants and make comments online Attend a review committee meeting to discuss and 3 hours Late April select grant recipients Encourage people to attend the Placemaking 2-4 hours Early July Challenge weekend on July 28-30. YĻǤ ƭƉźƌƌƭ Strong analytical skills to assess applications according to grant criteria Comfort (or willingness to learn) with an online grant review software called Decision.io Effective collaborator to work together as a selection committee, aiming to reach consensus on grant approvals hƷŷĻƩ ķĻƷğźƌƭ Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age Further orientation to the Placemaking Challenge will be provided via email. An optional training session on the online grant review software can be made available. Members of the selection committee are not eligible to apply for this grant.
