Compass Kitchener Citizen Advisory Committee Minutes
SEPTEMBER 6, 2017 CITY OF KITCHENER
The compass Kitchener Citizen Advisory Committee met this date, commencing at 4:00 p.m.
Present: Vice Chair Mr. Leyton Collins
Councillor S. Marsh, J. Brown, L. Gazzola, A. Hammoud, J. Stephens-Wells,
L. Trumper, R. Villamar

1. 2016/2017 CITIZEN REPORT CARD PROCESS
Ms. J. Stephens-Wells, a representative of the Report Card Working Group, discussed the
proposed process for completing the Compass Kitchener 2016/17 Citizen Report Card looking
for agreement from the committee on the following key points: timeline and meeting schedule,
reference documents for evaluation, consultation with all citizen advisory committees, writing
the report card, and presentation to Council.
As a result of this discussion, the following action items were agreed upon:
1. The two additional Compass Kitchener Committee meetings scheduled for October will

regular meeting on November 1. This will allow Compass to collect input from
members of other committees in October prior to the evaluation. It is expected that the
report card should be ready for final approval during the regular meeting in February.

3. Compass Kitchener will not consult with the general public for input to this report card,
given the cha
11 Citizen Advisory Committees will be given the opportunity to share their input at the
next All Committees Gathering scheduled in October.
4. Ms. J. Stephens-Wells, Mr. J. Schitka, and Ms. L. Gazzola will take responsibility for
writing sections of the report card content. Mr. J. Brown and Ms. L. Trumper have
volunteered to proof read the content and provide feedback on writing style.
5. Mr. J. Schitka, Mr. J. Brown will present the results of the Citizen Report Card to Council
in February/March 2018. All members of Compass Kitchener are encouraged to attend
the presentation to Council to show support for the results.

2. STRATEGIC ACTION PLAN UPDATE
Ms. L. Majcher advised the Committee that she would not be providing an update on the Strategic
Action Plan at this time. An update will be prepared for the October meeting.
3. ADVISORY COMMITTEE GATHERING
Mr. A. Hammoud and Mr. J. Brown provided an update on the Fall All Committees Gathering. The
objectives for this meeting will be to encourage networking and collaboration among committees
progress on the strategic priorities for this term of Council (2015-
2018). Ms. L. Majcher indicated that she would make arrangements to book an appropriate venue
and distribute the invitations and agenda to all committee members. The preferred date for the

meeting is Tuesday October 24. All members of Compass Kitchener are encouraged to attend.
4. COMMUNITY SURVEY WORKING GROUP
Ms. L. Majcher indicated that the Community Survey Working Group will need to begin work in the
next 4 to 6 weeks. There are five members of Compass Kitchener that expressed an interest in this
working group. A meeting will be set up shortly to discuss next steps.
5. OTHER BUSINESS
Mr. L. Collins informed the Committee that he attended the Waterloo Region Police Services

strategic planning session on August 25. He found the meeting to be very enlightening, and shares
some of the concerns that were raised by business owners in the downtown core and information
about the downtown discovery team. Ms. J. MacDonald offered to share the results of the
Downtown Kitchener community engagement process and the Downtown Discovery Team with the
members of Compass Kitchener.
