3.3Before Each Site Visit
Tasks
a) arrange for crime analysis from security staff and manager of Community Centre
b) Research demographics and land use
c) Seek out key contacts at each Centre such as maintenance staff and supervisory staff
d) Arrange to have site plan drawing
e)Gather tools
f) Plan to attend the site when the problem(s) is/are at its worst and be inconspicuous as
possible (avoid wearing a uniform or walking in large "official -looking" groups)
3.4During Each Site Visit (Approx. One per month)

a) Get a fell for the siteand surrounding area(drive around the site - looklook at the big
picture first rather than the details)
b) Ascertain the designated purpose of the space9s0 and how well does it function -
remember to look for conflict
Determine its boundaries and how it's defined. Systematically move from the largest
(exterior) to smallest (interior) space undertaking a broad scanning of the entire
enviromentto a detailed investigation of (potentially problematic areas
d) Question everthing & never look at a property the same wayagain-remember to think like
a criminal
e) Look for environmental clues, leftover ambiguous spaces, areas of contrast or shadow,
desire lines, edge conditions, entrapment spots, movment predicators, etc.
f)Conduct user interviews and ascertain management directives
g) Float ideas but don't make firm recommendations
h) Take pictures
i) Take your time and be thorough
j) Do not overlook the obvious
