DELEGATION 3.0 Placemaking Challenge Grant: Darren Kropf Brief overview of what the Placemaking Challenge Grant is: o It is part of the Love My Hood strategy o It is about giving a community/neighbourhood the tools to realize their project ideas o It is about turning everyday spaces into destinations and gathering places o thinking which may include art projects o Two deadlines: one for a larger grant and one for a smaller grant o 43 applications for 5 available grants o 9 out of 10 city wards applied o Members from 5 different advisory councils were represented on the selection committee o There was a lot of variety in the applications: traffic calming initiatives, animation of trails with the biggest category being active amenities o Upon acceptance, a staff person is assigned for each project to help with logistics o Project is circulated through specific departments for comment o There is a timeline to realize the project th o Application deadline for the smaller grant is April 9 o website DISCUSSION ITEMS February 2018 - ACAC Minutes 1 ARTS AND CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ACAC) MINUTES FEBRUARY 20, 2018 CITY OF KITCHENER 4.0 ACAC 2018 priorities: everyone The members started with a review of the 2017 statement as a starting point for the discussion: o The work of ACAC is to amplify the voices of artists and arts organizations and culture organizations to ensure their role in the community and economy is valued and validated Some of the ideas voiced during the discussion that followed include: o Helpful to identify specific pillars or values for ACAC to have as guidance when advising on projects o Helpful to have a statement to remind members o A lot of agreement between members that sharing more information from ACAC in the community would be beneficial; how to be ambassadors? o role in doing outreach into the community? o Is there any room for mentorship? o Perhaps invite others to come to ACAC, open house type of gathering o ACTION: Identify and share projects of interest from the corporate work plan INFORMATION ITEMS 5.0 City Updates: Silvia DiDonato Revised presentation on the Film, Music, and Interactive Media Office will be made to EDAC and Waterloo Economic Development committee to obtain feedback from stakeholders and decision makers The purpose of the office was briefly reviewed: The purpose of the Film, Music & Interactive Media Office (FMIMO) is to facilitate job growth and opportunities in the film, music and interactive media industries Comments and questions can be emailed to Silvia As Councilor Schneider sends his regrets, staff reported that Council unanimously approved the Artist in Residence for 2018 ACTION: ACAC members to review staff report 6.0 Downtown Action and Advisory Committee: Aaron Francis The Queen Street revitalization project was on the agenda, specifically the light fixture incentive program Aaron advocated for the incentive program to be available to businesses located in other parts of downtown There is a plan of 12 staggered art unveilings for the LRT; it may be an opportunity to celebrate art in the City ACTION: Emily is able to follow up to see if she can obtain more details on the LRT public art unveilings 7.0 Economic Development Advisory Committee: Shirley Madill None 8.0 Public Art Working Group: Lydia Workman Video of 2018 Artist in Residence Sumaira Tazeen, presenting her project to the Council, was shown A brainstorming session was held about the Artist in Residence and Rotunda Gallery programs to consider how to grow and improve the programs February 2018 - ACAC Minutes 2 ARTS AND CULTURE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (ACAC) MINUTES FEBRUARY 20, 2018 CITY OF KITCHENER 9.0 Council Report: None 10.0 Linda: ACAC member, Michelle assisted Linda with finding a coop student from the School of Media and Design to assist with a project. Shirley: Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery won an award to support the acquisition of a sculpture by Shary Boyle, which will be part of the permanent collected and displayed in the summer exhibition at KWAG ADJOURNMENT: The chair adjourned the meeting at 5:30 p.m. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, March 20, 4:00 p.m., Conestoga Room February 2018 - ACAC Minutes 3
