Beaulne advised that the Social and Economic Inclusion Project, subtitled 'Closing the Distance for Youth and Seniors in Central West Ontario' was initiated in 2003 to explore community interest in population health initiatives using a social and economic inclusion framework. Isolation was identified as the common concern in urban and rural areas and youth / seniors were identified as vulnerable isolation groups because of their experiences of isolation and disconnectedness in the community. She stated that the process engaged youth and seniors, community leaders and community partners in informal discussions to gain knowledge to be used to develop action planning strategies. T. Beaulne then introduced Sue Morton, a volunteer with the Social Planning Council and a member of the action group which oversaw the project. An overview of the project outcome was provided which identified: what isolation situations seniors and youth find themselves in at various life stages; the nature of kitchen table talk discussions held; summaries of information obtained; and, access to information issues raised. D. Schnarr entered the meeting. J. Vickery questioned the pertinence of the information to the Committee as he had not noted a specific action request being made. T. Beaulne stated that the information collected will be formulated into a report card format to be circulated to community partners who will be requested to review the data and make policy changes, as required. She further noted that no request of the Committee was being made at this time; however, a direct request for support and participation may be forthcoming. 4. WORK PLAN 2003/2004 Ms. J. Dean advised that a listing of the work plan sub-committees was attached to the agenda. Members were asked to verify their choices and volunteer for any additional sub- committees. D.
