DISCUSSION ITEMS
3.0 Creative Hub updates: Silvia DiDonato
• A quick overview was given of the events leading up to the current embodiment of the
Creative Hub at 44 Gaukel street
o In 2013 staff facilitated community partners to launch Kitchener Studio Project at
44 Gaukel
0 4 year lease signed with Conestoga College; multiple events occurring in
collaboration with regional partners
o Everest College closes at Gaukel; second floor becomes available
o In 2016 direction from Council for staff to evaluate multiple locations for an arts
hub and to consult with the community on space needs, mission and expected
community uses
Late in 2016 Council approved the establishment of a Creative Hub and instructed staff
to continue with the next steps in establishing the hub at 44 Gaukel. This report is going
forward on May 28 to Committee and is requesting investment in the Creative Hub at 44
Gaukel. Members made constructive comments and suggestions in an open discussion.
Overall, there was consensus that the content was very well encapsulated and members
reinstated their support for this project

5.0 Economic Development Advisory Committee: Shirley Madill
• She was absent from the last meeting
6.0 Public Art Working Group: Lydia Workman
• Missed the last meeting, but staff informed members that:
o Gordon Hatt, the director of CAFKA, gave an update on the festival
o Julie Sperling, 2017 artist in residence, presented her commission piece for
recommendation of temporary installation on the 6th floor of city hall, with a
possible permanent location at Kitchener's Farmer's Market
o Staff gave a presentation on a public art component coming up as part of a
skatepark development in Doon Pioneer park area
7.0 Council Report: Councilor Dave Schnider
• Not in attendance
8.0 Member's updates:
Sam on behalf of Aaron: Aaron recently joined the CAFKA board of directors; this year's
festival theme is Recognize Everyone; the opening ceremony is June 2 at city hall with a
launch party at 44 Gaukel Street; everybody is welcome
Lori: CKWR radio is doing fundraisers and working with a person developing an app for active
giving for not for profits
Lydia: her work is on display in a library in east Guelph
