Cycling Advisory Committee met on May 8 2018 commencing at 4:15p.m.
Present:

DISCUSSION ITEMS
1. KCTAC Vice-Chair Selection
Mr. M. Drasdo provided a brief overview of the resignation of vice chair Tim Mollison leading to
an open position on the committee.
Mr. B. Cronkite explained the nomination process for filling the position and opened the floor for
nominations for Vice Chair.
Mr. B. Jenner asked for a summarization of the vice chair duties.
Mr. M. Drasdo explained all of the responsibilities the position would entail.
Mr. B. Cronkite reopened the floor for nominations.
Mr. B. Jenner nominated Mr. D. Brotherston who then accepts the position.
2. Compass Kitchener (Amber Sare)
Ms. A. Saber representing Compass Kitchener introduced herself and her company explaining
what they do for the community.

Ms. A. Saber invited all of the members of the committee to attend the all committee wide

meeting on June 21 2018. She briefly discussed the agenda of the meeting and discussion
topics. Ms. A. Saber expressed the importance of the meeting to provide additional insight and
to have all opinions be heard.
Ms. A. Saber explained how the survey was important to help drive strategy and define
objectives.
Mr. M. Drasdo asked if the company would be reevaluating the data to wrap up the strategic
plan.
Ms. A. Saber answered yes and explained the report card.
Mr. M. Drasdo asked when the report card was expected to be released.
Ms. A. Saber replied that it was expected to come out late 2018 to early 2019.
Mr. M. Drasdo asked what the report card was based on.
Ms. A. Saber replied the report card was based on the strategic plan. She also added in that
every year a report card is issued to record up to date progress.
3. Sidewalk Winter Maintenance Review (Aaron McCrimmon-Jones)
Mr. A. McCrimmon-Jones, Ms. R. Lusk, and Ms. D. McGoldrick introduced themselves and their
position with the city.
Mr. A. McCrimmon-Jones introduced the presentation sharing all of the topics the group would
be speaking on. The group presented example questions for the city wide survey.
Mr. A. McCrimmon-Jones explained current maintenance standards and by-law requirements
and presented the winter sidewalk maintenance engagement communications plan. He
explained both short and long term goals for the program.
Ms. D. McGoldrick explained the two-year program, and how expressed they intend on testing
different ways to gain public acceptance to help build a stronger strategy.
Mr. M. Drasdo asked the group, at which stage they would be looking at outdoor contracting.
Ms. D. McGoldrick responded that it would begin in phase 1 stage 2 where they would be taking
potential programs to counsel.
Mr. A. McCrimmon-Jones presented an activity to the to gain further insights from the
community. Mr. A. McCrimmon-Jones confirmed he would be sending the activity out to all the
members through email.
Ms. D. McGoldrick added that they are also looking at opportunities to incorporate technology
into their efforts. To help them gain more information on what to deploy and how to attack the
situation.

Mr. M. Drasdo asked if the group was looking at other cities and considering them as examples.
Mr. A. McCrimmon-Jones responded that they are considering other cities actions and
explained they are taking a cautious approach based upon the insights gained from other cities.
Ms. D. McGoldrick added that they want to avoid consequences, and have a thorough thought
out plan.
Ms. D. McGoldrick reminded the committee they would be sharing the discussion template with
everyone through email to gather more insights.
4. Cross-Advisory Committee Meeting

Mr. B. Cronkite explained that the June 7 from 6:00pm-8:00pm formal meeting request will go
out before Mr. D. Pimentel returns from holidays.
Mr. B. Cronkite let the committee know that there had been a request for DropBox to come in
and share information from their service product and plans. He then asked the committee what
they feel would be important to have on the agenda for the Regional Bike Initiative meeting.
Mr. D. Brotherston suggested the topic of sidewalk winter maintenance.
Mr. B. Jenner suggested there should be a focus on opportunities for region wide initiative
projects. He also suggested more discussion on way finding around the region and continuity of
signage throughout tricities.
Mr. D. Brotherston said he believes it is important to collaborate on the signage region wide. He
also suggested the topic of data collection to gain more insight on bike parking spots
Ms. L. Paprocki agreed that regional consistency is an important topic.
Mr. D. Brotherston proposed that major projects for active transportation should be shared
regional wide.
Mr. E. Bliefert asked if there would be any worth in sending out a survey to get more opinions in
from all regional members on important topics.
Mr. D. Brotherston agreed and stated he believes the survey would be important.
Mr. B. Cronkite closed the topic by agreeing that sending out a survey to establish topics for the
meeting would be the best approach.
5. BikeFest
Mr. M. Drasdo invited committee members to volunteer for Bike Fest if they were available
Mr. B. Cronkite asked what would be expected from volunteers.

Mr. M. Drasdo responded that duties were simply to show up, engage with the community, and
hand out swag.
Ms. L. Paprocki added that there would be two races going on led by Easy Riders and explained
what the races would entail.
Mr. M. Drasdo says they are going to be doing everything to help promote cycling.
Mr. B. Cronkite introduced Ms. D. Salazar Marketing and Events Coordinator and explained she
would be working on the organization of Bikefest.
Mr. B. Cronkite commented on the importance of having ambassador’s volunteers.
5. Subcommittee Meetings
