CYCLING AND TRAILS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
February 13, 2018 CITY OF KITCHENER
Cycling Advisory Committee met on this date commencing at 4:05 p.m.
Present: Councillor Y. Fernandes, Ms. L. Paprocki, Ms. M. Oviedo, Messrs.
D. Brotherston, M. Drasdo, D. Hoshowsky, B. Jenner, R.
Mazumder.
Staff: Mr. J. Barton, Multi-Use Pathways and Trails Project Manager
Mr. B. Cronkite, Interim Manager, Transportation Planning
Mr. G. Hermanson, Active Transportation Student
1. ONTARIO BIKE SUMMIT
Mr. B. Cronkite explained the upcoming Ontario Bike Summit in April and that the
city would be sending a committee member alongside staff to attend it.
Committee members were asked of their interest in attending, and all interested
members had their names put into a cup and drawn from. Ms. M. Oviedo will be
attending bike summit alongside city staff.
2. CROSS ADVISORY COMMITTEE CONVERSATION
Mr. B. Cronkite explained the concept of the cross advisory committee between
the three cities and region. The committee discussed the timing of meeting, and it
was determined that Thursday evening would be preferable, with Tuesday
evening and Wednesday evenings being preferable backups. It was suggested
that a poll that everyone could vote on would be most beneficial and Mr. B.
Cronkite was to look into the possibility.
3. KCTAC SCOPE
Mr. B. Cronkite asked if the committee would like to change the name or the
scope of the committee. He said that staff must present changes to council in
report. Committee members received the terms of reference prior to the
November meeting. Committee members are to review the terms of reference.
This is to be discussed after suggested changes are made.
4. 2018 MUP AND TRAILS PROJECT LIST
Mr. J. Barton went over the multi-use paths and trails project list. The list included
Huron Natural Area Trails, parts of the Laurentian trail, part of the Upper Canada
park trail system, Fallowfield park trail, Resurrection and North Forrest park
connections and the Sandrock greenway bridge. A new piece of the Trans

Canada Trail is being added along the west side of Courtland from Hayward to
Carwood Ave. Other, smaller trail improvements were mentioned briefly.
Mr. D. Hoshowsky asked about way finding on the trails.
Mr. J. Barton responded that standard way finding will be implemented along the
trails.
Mr. D Brotherston asked about crossing Strasburg at the end of the new Huron
Natural Area trail.
Staff commented that no crossing is planned for right now, although there is
potential for a PXO in the future.

Meeting was running late, so no subcommittees met.
