HomeMy WebLinkAboutCouncil - 2018-12-03 S InauguralSPECIAL COUNCIL MINUTES DECEMBER 3. 2018 CITY OF KITCHENER The Inaugural Meeting of the 2019-2022 City Council was held this date in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Kitchener, with all members present. The meeting opened with the singing of "O Canada" by Queen Helena Canadian -Croatian Cultural & Charitable Society, the Voces del Sur Spanish Children's Choir, the Grand River Chinese School, and the Ubuntu Kids Club. Mayor B. Vrbanovic gave a Land Acknowledgement. Ms. Jean Becker, Senior Advisor of Indigenous Initiatives at Wilfrid Laurier University gave an indigenous opening with invocations provided by Meena Waseem, Student of Cameron Heights Collegiate Institute, and Father Dan Lobsinger, Associate Pastor, St. Mary's Parish. The Honourable Mr. Justice P.J. Flynn was called upon to induct the elected officials. As required by statue, the Declaration of Office, which incorporates the Oath of Allegiance, was taken by Mayor B. Vrbanovic and Councillors D. Chapman, S. Davey, J. Gazzola, K. Galloway-Sealock, B. loannidis, M. Johnston, S. Marsh, C. Michaud, P. Singh, and D. Schnider. A musical selection by the KW Symphony Youth Orchestra Moved by Councillor K. Galloway-Sealock Seconded by Councillor S. Marsh "That the report of the Striking Committee of this date be adopted." Carried. Mayor Berry Vrbanovic then delivered his Inaugural Address, a copy of which is appended and forms part of these minutes. Moved by Councillor J. Gazzola Seconded by Councillor D. Chapman "That leave be given the Mover and Seconder to introduce the following by-laws for three readings and that the same be taken as read a first, second and third times, be finally passed and numbered serially by the Clerk. Being a by-law to appoint an Acting Mayor. To confirm all actions and proceedings of the Council. Moved by Councillor S. Davey Seconded by Councillor M. Johnston "That the Inaugural Meeting of City Council be adjourned." On motion the meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m. (AAA^, MAYOR LERK (By-law No. 2018-113) (By-law No. 2018-114)." Carried. Carried. That notwithstanding the provisions of Clause 3.1 of Council Policy GOV-BOA-63 (Appointments to Boards and Committees), Council hereby confirms the following appointments in excess of the maximum allowable years of service; namely: Committee of Adjustment Denny Cybalski, Jennifer Meader and Bob McColl. 8. That Council authorizes members of Council to participate on Association of Municipalities of Ontario and Federation of Canadian Municipalities boards and committees and agrees to cover expenses associated with attendance at meetings.
