trails or active transportation, within the Region of Waterloo. The intent is to have and
committee members share projects, work plans and ideas with each other.

this date has been postponed due to conflicts with a Regional Council meeting and the
Region’s public meeting on the Ontario’s regional review. In addition Dropmobility will
launch on May 1 and this date this will provide the committees with the opportunity to
provide their initial feedback to Dropmobility about the bike share program, In addition
Regional staff hope to have more information about ION launch.
Committee members are asked to let staff know if they can/want to attend this meeting
so we can inform Waterloo, who will be hosting the meeting. Meeting details are below

Subject: Kitchener Strategic Plan
Overview
The City is preparing a new Strategic Plan for the 2019 to 2022 term of Council. In June
2018 and January 2019 all advisory committee members were invited to sessions to
help prepare the new Strategic Plan. On April 1 staff presented draft Strategic Plan
goals and actions to Council that reflect the input we received. We are now embarking
on a public engagement process to gain feedback on the draft goals and actions and
this committee’s review and comments on the draft goals and actions would be
appreciated.
Expectations of Committee
The draft goals and actions are presented below so you have time to consider them and
bring comments or questions to the meeting. We would particularly like to know what
you think about the actions and how you see helping the City to implement them.

Subject: Contraflow Bike Lane Projects
Overview
The City of Kitchener’s Cycling Master Plan, approved in 2010, identifies cycling
upgrades for Young Street and Duke Street.
Young Street (between Duke St and Maynard Ave)
Goal: Provide a safer and more convenient route into the downtown across
Weber St.
Proposed contraflow bike lane, enabling two-way bicycle travel on a road that is
designated as one way for motor vehicles. This requires a dedicated bicycle
signal at the Weber St and Young St intersection.
Some improvements to traffic speeds and impacts to parking are expected.
Duke Street (between Cedar St and Pandora Ave)
Goal: Provide a means for residents to bike on Duke St in both directions.
Proposed contraflow bike lane, enabling two-way bicycle travel on a road that is
designated as one way for motor vehicles.
Some improvements to traffic speeds and impacts to parking are expected.
Coordination with King East Neighbourhood Association’s resident-led traffic
calming project featuring street murals.
You are invited to express any questions, comments, or concerns at an open house.
Drop in anytime.
