the mall. He indicated Council opted not to pursue Heritage Designation of the building, but did
request the property owner give further consideration to retaining more of the original façade
than what they were proposing. He indicated at the time of Co, the property
owner initial intentions were to retain the north façade within a hallway that had minimal visibility
to the public realm. Mr. Bensason advised since that time the property owner has amended its
proposal and intends on retaining the north and east elevations of the Sears Building, in addition
to the north elevation, as proposed. He stated the portion of the Sears façade will be maintained
in a vestibule of a new entrance feature, which will be a primary access from a new parking
garage.
Several members expressed support for the updated design, stating although the façades were
not visible from Fairway Road, they would be visible from the adjacent highway/highway exit. In
response to questions, Mr. Bensason advised that staff have requested the property owner give
consideration to retain the green tile currently on the building and incorporate it
elsewhere within the facility.
